OPA faced a tough North Davis team on Wednesday afternoon but came out with a 6-0 win. Freddy Cano scored the first goal of the game off of an excellent pass from Eric Gonzalez. It was a tight first half, however. Just before the break a controversial foul was called and NDPA was awarded a penalty kick. Logan Klar saved the day (and the shot) and OPA escaped the first half with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half OPA opened the field and began move the ball well. Freddy scored three more times! OPA's defense played very well the entire game. Jay Anguiano, Fernando Soto, Ben Putnam, Amanda Hatch, Lily Wahlen, and Alvaro Rubio all contributed big minutes. Logan Klar and Orlando Tenorio had their second shutout of the season.
OPA played hard to final whistle. Eric Bortoluzzi scored the final two goals to end game. Graisy Greener and Lily Wahlen assisted on the two final goals.
Great game OPA! Next week will bring another challenge as they travel to West Valley City to face American Preparatory Academy West Valley.
OPA began the season with an impressive win over region rival Syracuse Arts Academy, 7-0. The Aguilas started a little slow as they worked all of the jitters out. In the 17th minute Garrett Jones found just enough space to fire a rocket past the goalie for the first goal of the season. After that, everyone settled down and played their game. Freddy Cano scored a quick three goals immediately after Garrett's. Just before the half Fernando Soto got loose and took a hard shot that found the back of the net.
The second half was a beautiful display of passing and ball movement. Late in the half Freddy scored two more goals, capping of a 5 goal game! Davis Johnson and Alexis Hernandez each had an assist in the game. Orlando and Logan Klar split time at goalie and neither allowed a goal. Logan led the goalies with 4 saves. The defense of Lily Wahlen, Jay Anguiano, Fernando, Ben Putnam, and Alvaro Rubio, along with a few others, made it nearly impossible for any offense attack from the Dragons.
